Self-Image

This is a guest post from Karleia Steiner

Many people today suffer from poor self-image. It will be a lot harder for you to achieve your dreams if you do not have a positive self-image. Fortunately, there are 5 steps that will help you boost your self-image and achieve your dreams. Below are some tips that will help you develop a more positive self-image.

Self-Image

Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

Most of us have compared ourselves to another person at some point. It is so easy to say that we wished we looked like or had personality traits like another person. However, it is hard to develop a positive self-image if you are always trying to be like someone else. Everyone has their good and bad traits, which is why you should stop comparing yourself to other people. Focus on your good qualities.

Make Minor Changes In Your Appearance

Even though you should focus more on your personality traits, you may also want to make minor changes in your appearance. Improving your physical appearance can also help give your self-image a boost. You can improve your self-image by purchasing clothes that flatter your figure. You may also want to get a new hairstyle or haircut. Additionally, you can get teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is less expensive than other cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Surround Yourself With People Who Are Positive

You should surround yourself with family members and friends who love and support you. Having a group of positive people around you will have a positive effect on your self-esteem. Your support system will also give you the encouragement that you need to achieve your dreams.

Forgive Yourself

Everyone makes mistakes. However, far too many of us dwell on those mistakes. Making mistakes does not mean that you are a bad person. It simply means that you are human. That is why it is important to forgive yourself.

Reward Yourself

Many of us spend so much time focusing on the negative things that we do not give ourselves credit when we do something right. When you accomplish a goal, you should reward yourself. This will give you an incentive to keep on pursuing your dreams.

Positive self-image is one of the keys to achieving your dreams. You can improve your self-image by rewarding and forgiving yourself. You will also need to surround yourself with positive people who encourage you. Making minor changes in your appearance is something else that you can do to boost your self-image. Additionally, it is important to stop comparing yourself to other people.

  2. Hi Brendan,
Thanks for highlighting this aspect of personal development.Everything begins with ourselves. That includes our self esteem.
    I have a few takes on this subject mysef….What I would say to myself ,and anyone else is;
Encourage yourself and spend more time looking for solutions, searching possibilities, and pushing back self imposed limits.
Stay longer with your strengths and abilities.Turn away from the hypnotic pull of discouraging comparisons. And the emotional charge surrounding those negative memories, which are useless anyway.
Make sure you feel strong and capable about yourself.Pep yourself instead of meekly surrendering to your “borrowed limitations”.”Borrowed” because its not what you originally think, but what others make you think.

Stand up and get ready to win.

    Thanks
    Mona

  3. Great post, especially about forgiving yourself.

So often we give ourselves a hard time, all because of a few mistakes we’ve made in the past. If we’re not careful, we’ll get haunted by them…which isn’t good when it comes to the pursuit of your goals.

Forgiving yourself and learning from any mistakes is a great way to improve your self-image, as well as preventing a form of self-sabotage of achieving your goals.

    Thanks for the post!

    1. Hey Julian!

I think that’s one of the hardest things to actually do. I know I’ve found it hard at times to forgive myself for the things I’ve done and the regrets I have. It’s all about seeing it from a new perspective and it can take some time… but definitely one of the best things you can do!

  4. I think exercising is a huge key for positive self image. It makes you feel healthy and it makes you feel happier. Learning to stop comparing yourselves to others is key. Everyone is unique and has their own positives and negatives as you said. Comparing yourself just makes you feel like shit, so learn to stop doing it by catching yourself when you do it and reframing your thoughts.

    1. Hey Seb!

I’m a massive fan of exercising and I agree it can help build your self-image. I find that when I’m exercising I just feel more confident it all areas of my life. It’s kind of like if you feel good you do good.

  5. Getting myself a big dream and create action plans to realize it is another tip for boosting my self image.

    1. Hey Edmund!

Great idea. Having a clear sense of direction definitely helps in boosting ones self-image!
