Brendan’s Story

G’Day!

I’m Brendan, a lover of adventure, outdoors, entrepreneurship, coffee and I have a strong desire to help you make a difference and an income doing what you love.

I literally had an awakening in my sleep at 3:16 in the morning and decided that The Start of Happiness had to be established.

We’re creating something special around here… a movement of energetic people taking action to make a difference in this world and build a life they love. Will you join us?

Happiness in life is success in life.

I believe happiness is primarily derived from 3 key things:

  1. Making a difference
  2. Doing what you love
  3. Surrounding yourself with amazing people

For this to be able to happen, you need to earn an income from doing so. Earning an income from doing what you love will enable you to continue doing what you love and make your love your life. Money is simply a tool for you to be able to spread your message further and create a bigger difference in this world.

If you can build a life around your passions and make a living doing so, why not? The Start of Happiness is about helping you build your own lifestyle in which you are absolutely passionate, excited and happy to do what you love every day. I like to call this going from passion to profit.

The Start of Happiness exists to provide you the strategies and tools to be able to do the things you love, more often. It is about understanding yourself, understanding your passions, defining your goals, waking up excited each and every day and staying motivated to enable you to reach your full potential. When you start to make a difference within yourself, you can start to make a difference within the world.

If you’re looking to make a difference in others lives and turn your passion into a profit then you’re in the right place.

A bit about me

When I was 7 years old I nearly died.

My brother and I were at Central Station in Sydney, Australia. We were there with my parents to honour the last steam train to ever leave the station.

As the train departed, my brother and I thought it would be a great idea to race the train. So we started jogging and as the train got faster we started running. I vividly remember watching the train to my right as I was running, seeing the windows open, the dark brown paint on it’s outside and seeing a door flapping with the jolts of the train. The train was going faster than me and I was determined to try keep up. I started sprinting as fast as I could.

The next thing I know, I’m crouched down in a ball with the wheels of the train literally centimetres from my side. I quickly realise where I am and feel the side of the platform against my shoulder. I’ve fallen in the gap between the platform and the train.

I couldn’t move. I was frozen in fear. I had no idea how I got down here. All I could think about was staying as tight to the platform as possible while I felt the wind of the train passing by right next to me.

After what seemed like an eternity, the train finally passes me by. I stand up and look onto the platform. I remember seeing an older lady, about 70 years of age sitting down on one of the benches with her eyes wide open and her hands cupped around her mouth, completely in shock.

My brother was quickly at my side. He pulled me up onto the platform. All I could think about was getting back to my parents. That’s all I wanted to do. My brother put his arm around my shoulder as we started to quickly walk back to my parents who had been heading outside to the car. However, he quickly pulled his arm back and as he did I noticed he had blood all over his arms. I realised I was bleeding heavily from my head.

We finally get to my parents and they look as shocked and confused as ever. My brother tells them the story: “we were running along the platform racing the train. I couldn’t keep up so I stopped and Brendan just ran straight into me! He then rolled along the platform and hit his head on the train before falling in the gap next to the train! I thought he was dead!”

We race to the hospital and I’m quickly admitted. I remember putting the gas mask on and thinking I was floating in the sky with some hot air balloons.

Then, I wake.

I’m dazed but everything seems ok. I look over and see my parents and they look more relieved rather than shocked. This comforts me.

I end up with stitches and a scar that will be with me for life. A small price to pay for me to live the rest of my life. The doctor makes mention that if it was an electric train I would have most likely died. I make a mental note that I’m extremely lucky and will do whatever it takes to make the most of my life.

If you want to read more about this incident, how it changed my life and how it led to 3 questions that I ask myself everyday, check out my post on Tiny Buddha titled The 3 Most Important Questions to Ask Yourself Everyday.

The Start of Happiness was born.

I truly believe that we all have something within us that can make a difference in this world. I also truly believe that we are not put on this planet to spend the majority of our lives doing work we don’t like.

Everyone keeps saying ‘you only live once‘, but how many people are actually taking advantage of that one life gift that they have been given?

I starting blogging here about personal development to provide tools and strategies that others could use in their life. I fell in love with both human potential and online marketing. I actually started making an income from this blog. I knew I was getting close to my mission in life.

Life has been a roller-coaster ride since, but it’s been awesome!

Seriously.

It’s amazing. When you’re on purpose it’s just an awesome feeling.

I’ve managed to meet some amazing people that have helped transform my life, including Dr John DeMartini (an expert in human development and who appeared in the movie ‘The Secret’), Benjamin J Harvey (Australia’s leading personal development expert), Dr Tim Sharp (Australia’s leading authority on happiness), Alexander Kjerulf (one of the world’s leading experts on happiness at work) and Brendon Burchard (New York Times #1 Bestseller of the Millionaire Messenger and founder of High-Performance Academy).

I have also had the opportunity of working with some amazing experts in the field of personal development and human potential online through The Start of Happiness.

My mission, is to help you make a difference and an income doing what you love.

My biggest frustration is seeing people do work they do not love. I never want to see another person do work they do not love.

I once heard that the definition of hell on earth is meeting the person you could have been. Don’t let that happen to you.
