Launching a new business

Today’s a rather exciting day but at the same time extremely scary day!

For the past few months I’ve been doing early mornings and late nights getting things prepared and ready for launching a new business today, the 20th August 2013.

Launching a new business

A huge reason for the existence of this business is The Start of Happiness. This site was created nearly a year ago (1st September we launched here!) and has been one of the fastest growing personal development blogs since. We’ve managed to reach a Google PageRank of 4 (very good!) and an Alexa rank of 180,000 that continues to improve every day. We’ve also reached over 100,000 people from 188 countries around the world. Amazing!

The online business world was a new realm to me just over a year ago but now I am completely embedded and in love with it.

I’m still learning a heck of a lot but I’ve definitely come a long way. The hardest part I have found is the time commitment. Before starting The Start of Happiness I thought getting my message out there and building my brand through blogging would be easy. All you have to do is write some articles and away you go, right?

How wrong was I! The time commitment needed to develop the content, edit and then run the thing like a business takes considerable effort and considerable time. The good thing is, it’s been absolutely awesome and I’ve loved every minute of it. And that’s what keeps me going… and as I mention often here if you’re not doing what you love then you probably need to re-evaluate as it will be 100x harder to be successful in your pursuits.

As a result I’m combining my corporate and business experience with my online marketing and social media experience and developing a new company.

I can hear you saying, just tell me already!

Alright, alright… start the drumroll… the business is called… Gradrecruit.

About Gradrecruit

Gradrecruit Logo

Gradrecruit is a graduate careers portal that enables graduates to search and apply for jobs while also providing the most up-to-date and relevant advice from career experts around the world. In my experience as a previous grad and then also as a Talent Manager in the corporate world, there is a clear lack of knowledge from graduates in what it is like to work in the corporate world and how to actually get a job that will help launch a career.

I want to do something about this. In addition to the online careers portal, Gradrecruit works with employers to develop their employer brand and talent pipeline through the use of online marketing and social media.

Social media recruiting is something that has taken off in the last couple of years and boy is it here to stay! The trouble is there are so many organisations out there that either don’t know where to get started with this or simply don’t have the time or resources to get involved.

This is where Gradrecruit can step in and help them out.

I’d also love to get your thoughts on using social media for recruitment. Do you look for jobs using social media? How do you look at company profiles and pages? What role do you think social media plays in recruiting and getting a job?

Please leave a comment as I’d LOVE to hear it!

So where does this leave The Start of Happiness?

Of course a lot of my time is going to be consumed with getting Gradrecruit up and running, however that doesn’t mean anything needs to change here.

The Start of Happiness is my bread and butter and my life is dedicated to the personal development realm. In fact, I’ve got an exciting announcement for you guys next week with another launch which I’m sure you’ll love.

There’s also a clear cross-over between The Start of Happiness and Gradrecruit. I want students to be able to find graduate jobs and build a career that they absolutely love. This is exactly the same as what we talk about here. It’s about living a life full of purpose and meaning and doing something that energises and excites you.

If this message can be taken to students in college and university before they embark on a career, then I’m sure it will help improve the overall rating of how many people enjoy their jobs! (depending on which surveys and research you go by, it is suggested that between 65% and 95% of people don’t enjoy their work!

Let’s change this!

Join the Launch Party!

I would absolutely love for you to check out Gradrecruit.

If you could please do one thing for me I would absolutely appreciate it… if you feel the site is worthy of a share with your networks, please do! It’s always hard to get the message out when you’re launching a new website or business but this would be so beneficial and I would be forever grateful.

But what’s even better, if you simply share Gradrecruit with your networks you will go in the draw to win an Apple Ipad Mini!
